Has this country gone mad!? We hear about it on the news and read about it in all of the papers, and we are all scared shitless over it. The Economy, is it on the brink of collapse? The answer of course, is yes. But what are the reasons for this? The mainstream media will have us believe it’s because of the war, the housing market and the fluctuating price of oil. Some of these things are factors in this but I haven’t heard too many people speak about the main reason for this, Unemployment.
Why are so many people unemployed? It’s not a secret. There are no jobs for people. And it’s only getting worse. Now, why are there no jobs for people? Well, it’s simple. Companies have been leaving this country in record numbers since the late 80s. Why are they doing that you ask? So the CEOs of these companies can make 20 million a year instead of 10. It’s despicable.
We are losing everything. Technology development, industry, education. Soon America will be a third world country. I don’t know why the Mexicans are jumping the boarder. I want to jump over, because that’s where a lot of the jobs are going. These companies are paying slave wages to Asian and Mexican workers so there profits increase. That’s just greed in its most disgusting form.
I remember when imported goods used to be more expensive because tariffs were so high. But now foreign labor is so cheap that it doesn’t matter anymore. What needs to happen is we need to raise tariffs so that when companies think about leaving they’ll think twice because the increase will be like paying their workers $8.00 per hour anyway. And the money collected from these tariffs can go to help the unemployment situation.
It seems all too simple doesn’t it? Well to real people it does. And by real people I mean those of us who make less than 50,000 a year because we are the only people that really feel the effects of this recession. We live in the reality of it every day. When we can only pay part of a bill or put just enough gas in our tank to make it to work and sacrifice a couple of toys from our children’s Christmas wish list.
It’s not only sad but it’s sick. It’s the epitome of greed in all of its forms. In the long run, companies that leave America for cheaper labor will hurt their businesses. When there are no more jobs left for Americans, who will buy their products? They are slowly destroying the country that helped them build their empire. And they have no conscience about it.
I urge all Americans to boycott as many foreign made products possible. I know it will be hard to do, and that’s sad, but do it as much as you can. Every time I buy a product I look at the UPC label, and right under it, it usually says made in China. It infuriates me. Where’s the pride in American craftsmanship? I live in Pawtucket R.I. the former home of Hasbro, biggest toy company in the world. They used to employ thousands of Rhode Islanders. When I was in school I was hoping to work there when I graduated. Production facilities moved to China, and with it, thousands of American jobs.
It’s time to start talking about this all the time. Call your local politicians, call your local media. Let’s let our new President know that we need help. We can’t lose America.
